About PCOS

PCOS is a hormonal disorder in females of reproductive age and it affects the fertility, metabolism and emotional well being of women .It is accompanied by co-morbidities and it manifests into a range of symptoms  that aren’t always definitive of the presence of the syndrome hence making it hard to diagnose. The condition is incurable but manageable with the correct lifestyle changes and medications.

Causes

The complete etiology and pathophysiology of the syndrome are not completely understood yet but an interplay of several genetic, epigenetic  and environmental factors have been observed to play a role in the progression of the syndrome.

Symptoms

The symptoms are primarily physical and physiological manifestations of insulin resistance and hyperandrogenism. The symptoms differ from one individual to another.

Treatment

Treatment to entirely alleviate the condition still remains unknown but multiple approaches to relieve the symptoms stand to be the only line of treatment. A holistic approach including lifestyle changes  and medical interventions have been observed to manage the symptoms to a considerable extent.

Diagnosis

The diagnosis of this condition stands to be a challenge with symptoms mimicking other conditions. An array of blood tests and ultrasounds are approaches for diagnosis.
